Declan Murphy

Meet Declan

Declan Murphy is Consultant Urologist and Director of Genito-Urinary (GU) Oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, and Clinical Professor at the University of Melbourne. Declan is an internationally-recognised key opinion leader in GU Oncology, prostate cancer in particular, and runs a very large prostate cancer practice at Peter Mac and Cancer Specialists.

Originally from the West of Ireland, Declan graduated from Medicine at NUI Galway in 1996, having nearly abandoned university for a career in the booming nightclub business in Galway. He got back on track and did basic surgical training and general surgery training in Dublin. He disappointed the late Professor Fitzpatrick by failing to turn in a thesis after his research year, but used the year to further his content creation skills which he credits with his current fame and fortune. Declan moved to London in 2012 to do his urology training at Guy’s Hospital (where he also became a Consultant), and fell in love with his then anaesthetic trainee and future wife, Lisa, over a TURP. They have two sons and a dog and are living happily ever after in Melbourne.

Declan is active on Twitter, maintains a busy YouTube channel, and co-hosts the popular GU Cast podcast.
